How the mighty have fallen.....

.....and fallen hard..... :::Sigh::: Well, I made it 6 months. Way back in January, after re-organizing the studio and after hitting the bestest ever yard sale I decided I needed to make some serious commitments to my ART budget and random purchases. I vowed to use what supplies I had, besides a few basics like paper and adhesives. I have been doing quite well......until now.

Well before I confess my recent PLUMMET off the wagon I will also be accountable to my new toy, the Cricut Expression. However, in my defense, I have been saving for over a year for that (hence another reason for the not spending) and DH paid for the other $$ and the software for my Birthday!! So, if you use girl math....that purchase is still ok, see?? :::Smiles:::

Just to show you how serious I have been, my total trips to craft stores since Christmas have been 5, 2 to Michaels, 2 to Joanns and once to Hobby Lobby while back home in Illinois (that's only 2 trips to HL in 18 months, people.

Oh, btw, yard sales and thrift stores in moderation were allowed, but only using serious discretion and consideration.

But I'm stalling.....so, I have been really enjoying crocheting again. You will have seen the cuffs I posted this week. I have mostly been using Lion Brand Incredible ribbon yarn. Love it......fun to work with and feels nice too.

So, there we were, DH and I, at Dollar Tree to buy more black frames for the room divider shutters with the beach pics. I always make a quick pass through the crafty section and, well, there is was.....2 big bins full of Incredible, Trellis and Fun Fur Yarns for $1 per skein. Now, I have still saved some money for an emergency ART purchase. DH, ever the voice of reason, says, just get a few......maybe the colors you don't have. Okay, I say, while already touching and stroking the skeins. ....eyes glazing over.....humming lightly to myself. "I'll need a couple of minutes here honey, ok?" Do you know that you can put quite a few of those little buggers in a hand held shopping basket? I started with one of each color, plus a couple fun fur in lime green.....AND THEN I STARTED THINKING.....if I want to make something OTHER than a cuff I probably need 2-3 skeins of a color......and maybe some coordinating fun fur.......and like a crazed shark in a feeding frenzy.....I dove in.

:::hanging my head in shame....but smiling like the Cheshire Cat::::

But, but, but, they were ONLY $1 instead of $6+.....and I LOVES them.....and they were pretty......and......well.....you know....I went there twice......once alone......

Anywho.....here they are. Pray for me.......Now I have to explain to John WHY exactly I need ANOTHER tote for yarn......but they are shiny......and silky.....

OK, Shelly Rae, wipe that guilty look off your face, and don't let me ever hear you talk about using up, or paring down, your stash!! "Stuff" is a mixed-media artist's Muse, for goodness sake! You can't pare-down you Muse! Get Real! Do you want to make her anorexic? LOL! Build up that stash and rotate it so it doesn't go stale!! And if you stop buying art supplies and start whining for diamonds, rubies and a rolls royce, then you have my permission to take a very long guilt trip. In the meantime, keep making your wonderful art!! I LOVE that you also crochet!! XOXO

LOL Shelly!! Your new finds are gorgeous! I especially love the light blue... :) You have been really really good at keeping yourself away from the stores... I could never do that! I just think of it as inspiration- lol! Don't feel bad- just think of all the wonderful treasures you'll be able to start working on now! Happy crafting :)
